What is SCRIP?

Would you be willing to make a donation to a program (Academic Booster Club, Beta Club, Athletics, Band, Media Center, etc.) at Liberty High School or another worthy cause if it did not cost you one cent?  If your son or daughter is a member of the baseball team, Beta Club, band, or JROTC, for example, would you rather sell wrapping paper to help raise money for the organization, or would you choose to raise money without selling anything?  I think the answer is obvious: we would all prefer to raise money without having to sell a product.  Here's a way to do it!

Please obtain a
SCRIP order form online or at LHS. (Ingle's order forms are on a separate form!) On the SCRIP form is a list of more than a hundred vendors, such as grocery stores, restaurants, retail stores, and gas stations, with a whole lot in between. Beside each vendor is a percentage. This is the percentage of money that each of these vendors will give Liberty High School if gift cards, rather than cash, are used to purchase their products.  For example, if you buy $100 worth of groceries one week from Ingles, then Ingles will donate $5 to Liberty High School if your purchase is made with a gift card.  If you eat at Texas Roadhouse Restaurant and spend $40, then our school gets a donation of $4.80.  Do you see how simple this is?

Every Friday afternoon,
a SCRIP order is placed for gift cards/certificates.  They spend just like money.  The difference is, however, that our school does not benefit from cash purchases; gift cards must be used to make this fund-raising program work.  Anyone who wants to order gift cards submits a SCRIP form, with the requested vendors marked, along with cash or check (made payable to LHS Academic Booster Club).  The next week, the gift cards are brought to the school and distributed to the people who ordered them.  Here's a perfect example, as shared by one of our faculty members, of how she used the SCRIP program in just one week:

Weekly groceries:  $150

$7.50 to LHS

Saturday night at Texas Roadhouse:  $40

$4.80 to LHS

Blockbuster Video Rental:  $10

$  .80 to LHS

Conoco fill-up on one vehicle:  $50

$1.25 to LHS

Birthday gift from Belk:  $25

$2.50 to LHS

This results in a $16.85 donation to our school, just for shopping with SCRIP gift cards.  Do you see how this is like being rewarded for spending money that you're going to spend anyway?  Imagine if every parent just bought their groceries alone using this program how much money would be donated to our school!

So please…consider how you might be able to participate in a program that raises money by doing absolutely nothing.  Check out this page for the next order dates.  If you would like to participate, send in your completed SCRIP form by that date, along with payment for any gift cards you wish to purchase.  Make sure you indicate on the form in the upper right-hand corner the name of the program you want your money to benefit (band, baseball, JROTC, etc.); otherwise, all donations will go to the Academic Booster Club.  Order forms need to be turned in to Mrs. Deb Rogers, in the ISS room, by noon on Friday before the order is submitted.
