The History of WLHS News
How it all started...
Christina Burch, class of 2006, and Erik Grayson, class of 2007, developed an interest in broadcast journalism after entering the 2005 Channel One Student Produced Week competition. Although their applications were not selected, their participation in the project helped gain support for a news show in the high school.
Dawn Sherriff, the Media Specialist at the time, worked with the students to organize the course. Mrs. Sheriff, Christina, and Erik presented the course syllabus and concept to the school, community leaders, and local businesses. WLHS News received an overwhelming amount of support and all the necessary equipment was able to be purchased.
At the end of the school year, Mrs. Sheriff took maternity leave and a few years off to be with her children. The new Media Specialist, Mrs. Yvonne Mayo, helped start the Broadcast Journalism course with a lot of enthusiasm. That enthusiasm, paired with the excitement of the students, helped to create what is now WLHS News! Become a part of
