Registration Dates Announced For 2013 School Year
Attention Parents!

The registration and Meet the Teacher dates for the 2013-2014 school year are set. 

Meet the Teacher day and registration for all elementary schools will be Thursday, August 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Registration times for middle and high schools vary by school and by grade. For a complete list of times and dates for middle and high schools, take a look at the Meet the Teacher Schedule.

Summer Reading
Students in honors and AP classes do not have summer reading this summer. There is no summer work requirement for courses for 2013-2014 for students at Liberty High School.

Summer School at LHS
Registration for Summer School will be begin on Monday, June 3, 2013. The purpose of Summer School is to allow students in grades 9-11 to recover credit, complete 4th quarter credit remediation, or complete seat time recovery. Summer school will be held at LHS and the cost is $75. Students needing to register, or those who would like more information about Summer School should see their guidance counselor. Liberty Fire Explorer Program
Have you ever seen firefighters before and thought that it would be a cool job? If so, please keep reading. You can become a Liberty Fire Explorer. What is an explorer? Being an explorer will allow you to train to become a firefighter. After a set amount of time, you will also be allowed to run calls on the trucks alongside other explorers and firefighters. The requirements are a C average in school, a clean record and a willing attitude to learn and listen. LHS Athletes of the Year 2012-13
The 2012-13 LHS Athletes of the Year were announced at the Honors & Awards Ceremony on May 22nd. 
 
Male:  Dakota Stewart, senior,  ran cross country and wrestled. He was All-Region and All-State in cross country and in wrestling was All-Region and selected to participate in the North –South All-Star match. He was also the individual Upper State champion and State Runner up in the 138 pound weight class. Dakota was also a member of the Wrestling State Runner-Up Team.
 
Female: Nikki Weidman, junior, ran cross country, track and wrestled. She participated in the state cross country meet and in track was All-Region and finished 4th in the state in the 800 m run. She was also a member of the Wrestling State Runner-Up Team and was the first female to compete in the state team championship for wrestling. Not only did she compete, but she won her match!

Robert Gwinn signs with SWU Cross Country / Track

Robert Gwinn has signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Southern Wesleyan University to compete in cross country and track. 
 
Robert has competed for two seasons of cross country at LHS and was All-Region I-AA in 2011 and 2012. He was All-State in 2011. Robert was named team MVP this year as well. The team finished 6th in the state this season and was AA State Runner-up in 2011.
 
In track, Robert was All-Region in 2011 as a part of the 4 x 800 m Relay team. This season, he was All-Region in the 1600 m and 3200 m run. He finished 6th in the state in the 3200 m run.

Dakota Stewart signs with Anderson University Wrestling
Dakota Stewart, of Liberty High School, has signed an athletic grant-in-aid with Anderson University to compete in wrestling.  Dakota had a high school career record of 142-40.   His senior season his record was 51 – 4 with 33 pins.
 
His individual awards this year were team MVP, Pickens County Champion, 5th at Southern Slam, Region Champion, Upper State Champion, State Runner-up in the 138 lb weight class (lost 4-3).   Dakota helped lead LHS to a team Region Championship and State Runner-up finish this season. He was named All-Region I-AA as both a junior and senior.   At the end of his senior season, he was selected to compete in the North-South All-Star match.
 
Dakota was also a 4 time All-State runner in cross country for LHS.

WYFF-4 Golden Apple Award
BI-LO and WYFF News 4 want to reward the teachers who are going above and beyond. Each week, an area techer will be selected to receive the Golden Apple Award and profiled Thursdays on WYFF News 4. These weekly winners will be selected from your nominations by a panel of judges. At the end of teh school year, a Teacher of the Year will be chosen from the weekly winners.

The nomination form can be found here. Printed copies are available at any local BI-LO grocery store.






Pickens County Youth Court
Pickens County Youth Court is now accepting applications. Applications are available at the front desk at LHS. Youth Court will provide all participants with the opportunity to:
  • Learn and understand how the legal system works
  • Develop Moral reasoning and critical problem-solving skills
  • Improve their poise, confidence, and public speaking skills
  • Serve their peers, schol and community
  • Gain valuable hands-on experience for future college and career resumes
Pickens County Youth Court is operated under the directon of the Pickens County Sheriff's Office with the cooperation of the School District of Pickens County.
